Sound Meter (SPL - sound pressure level) is an application that allows users to measure sound levels in decibels (dB). Commonly referred to as a sound level meter, decibel meter (dB meter), noise meter, or sound pressure level meter (SPL meter), this app utilizes the device's built-in microphone to provide accurate measurements and a reference point.

The app has been calibrated against various devices to ensure precision when measuring sound levels in decibels.

It is important to note that the built-in microphones are typically optimized for human voice frequencies (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). Consequently, there are hardware limitations that cap the maximum values that can be recognized, particularly for very loud sounds exceeding 100 dB.

Sound Meter should be considered as a recreational tool and used strictly as an ancillary instrument. It serves to provide entertainment rather than professional-grade measurements.

Below are different levels of noise measured in decibels (dB) for reference:

• 140 dB - gun shots, fireworks
• 130 dB - jackhammers, ambulance
• 120 dB - jet planes taking off
• 110 dB - concerts, car horns
• 100 dB - snowmobiles
• 90 dB - power tools
• 80 dB - alarm clocks
• 70 dB - traffic, vacuums
• 60 dB - normal conversation
• 50 dB - moderate rainfall
• 40 dB - quiet library
• 30 dB - whisper
• 20 dB - leaves rustling
• 10 dB – breathing
